Roger U. Gadbois

Roger U rbain Gadbois, 79, of Kennebunkport, passed away early Sunday morning on February 5, 2023, at Seal Rock Healthcare in Saco with his daughters by his side.

He was born in Biddeford on March 21, 1943, a son of Aldeus and Cecile (Ouellette) Gadbois. He was educated in Biddeford Schools.

Roger married his wife Carole Szumita on May 5, 1962 at St. Mary's Church in Biddeford. They were married until her passing on September 18, 2008.

Roger was from the generation of hard work. At a young age and from a large family, the siblings often helped in the family greenhouse. Roger later worked as a bellhop in Old Orchard Beach, at the Brunswick Hotdog Stand and at Edwards Market in Biddeford.  He was employed by Shaw's Supermarkets holding various positions within the company, with the majority of this time spent as a produce department  manager. He retired on June 30, 2006, after 34 years of service.

Roger was very social and was quick with a joke.  During his working career he made many friendships with coworkers as well as customers.

Roger had many interesting hobbies. They included lobstering, clamming , snowmobiling, motorcycling, times spent in his motor home , traveling, and playing cards with family and friends.

Roger followed local and professional sports. The New York Giants, Boston Celtics and Boston Bruins were his favorite teams. But nothing could compare to watching his children and grandchildren's sporting events and school activities. He took great pride in the Biddeford Tigers, unless his grandchildren were on the opposing Kennebunk Rams.

Not one to sit still, Roger kept busy. He looked forward to his time at the gym and was always working around his home.  He was generous with his time and experience and was quick to help others get things done.  During his winters at Limetree Park in Florida, he kept busy volunteering at the community breakfasts and with other events and projects.  However, his most memorable times were spent with his family. He loved to sit by the pool and enjoy a good old fashioned lobster bake.  These memories will be held on to and cherished forever. He will be sadly missed by many.

He was predeceased by his wife Carole Gadbois, sisters Therese Bourque, Lorraine Gadbois, brothers Jean Paul Gadbois, Richard Gadbois, brother in law Henri Bourque and sister in law Simone Gadbois.

He is survived by his partner of 13 years Wendy Lawson, children Carrie Bogue and husband Richard Caron, Cindy Stackpole, Cristy Beaupre and husband Timothy.

He is also survived by grandchildren Sara Bogue and wife Sarah Gordon, Amanda Petrin and husband Tim, Alyssa Caron, Victoria Stackpole, Kyle Beaupre, Izaiah Stackpole, Hannah Beaupre, Lydia Beaupre and one great grandson Daniel Roger Petrin.


Roger is also survived by brothers Robert Gadbois, Norman Gadbois and wife Rebecca, Michael Gadbois & partner Ann Neuman, and one sister Denise Guay and husband Roger.  Wendy's family includes Brad, Jen, Delaney, Remy, Caleb & Wesley Lawson, Chuck, Tara, Harrison, Tucker & Macy Gill, as well as several nieces and nephews.



Visiting hours will be from 4-7PM Thursday, February 16, 2023, at Cote Funeral Home Chapel, 87 James Street, Saco. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00AM Friday, February 17, 2023, at St. Joseph's Church in Biddeford. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Biddeford.
