Ronald Milan Scammon

Saco and formerly of Biddeford

Ronald Milan Scammon Sr., 88, of Saco and formally of Biddeford, snuck his way into heaven late Friday night on August 18, 2023, from Southern Maine Health Care, very much against the wishes of his friends, family, and nurses.

He was born in Biddeford on August 28th, 1934, son to Milan and Ruth Scammon. He was sent to work on an oil tanker as a teen and visited Arabia years before getting his high school diploma via hard work and summer school.

Ron joined the Navy at the ripe age of 17 back when folks thought that was a good idea. He was just in time for the Korean War, where he served as a boat pilot, bringing soldiers to shore under hails of gunfire. He survived the war despite a rocket's best efforts to blow up his craft. The vehicle was lost, but he was found.

While he was a younger man, he drove trucks and hauled rigs across these United States. As a recipient of a 9 million mile safety award, Ron had more right than most to complain about other people's driving.

He earned his retirement working the textile mill in Biddeford and spent part of his retirement pushing carts at the local Shaws. The man just wouldn't stop.

The rest of his retirement has been spent having fun, living life, and being incredibly proud of the massive family he has fathered.

He was predeceased by his wife Sharon Scammon, the mother of his children Annette Moore, and their son Patrick Scammon.

He is survived by a village worth of love; his sons Ronald Scammon Jr, and Micheal Moore, his daughters Linda Scammon, Laurie Montgomery, Theresa Burgess, and Paula Rohrbaugh. 16 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandson with so many more on the way!

He is also survived by his nieces Shiela LeRose and Darlene Early, his nephew Bruce Dawley, and Ron's good friend Christine Provencher along with all the other wonderful, caring, and smiling people of the Lord Pepperell in Saco.

He is to be interred in a crypt alongside his wife Sharon. There will be no services, instead, we must mourn and grieve him the way he wants us to, together.

Never has there been another like him nor ever will there be again.
