Rose Blanche Summey

Old Orchard Beach

Rose B. Summey, 96, of Old Orchard Beach, passed away on Sunday, February 11, 2024 at Southern Maine Health Care in Biddeford.

Rose was born in Biddeford on May 22, 1927, one of ten children born to Arthur and Amanda (Viger) Lamontagne.  She was educated at St. Joseph Catholic School in Biddeford.

Rose worked in the Pepperell textile mills helping her parents out with supporting their large family.  It was there she met her beloved husband, Robert Summey.  The couple married in 1955 and settled in Old Orchard Beach where they raised their two children, Scott and Gail. Later in life she worked for Herman Shoe, and for Maine Printing, retiring in 1989 at age 62.

When her children were young, Rose loved taking them for day trips to Santa's Village and Benson's Wild Animal Farm.  She had a lifelong passion for bowling and was an avid reader who enjoyed spending time at the beach, making jigsaw puzzles, and going out to eat with her dear friends.

Being a very social person, she loved meeting people.  She belonged to the "Circle of Friends" and the "50+ Club" where she made many lasting friendships.  She would light up any room she entered, and many marveled at her off-the-charts optimism.  She will be dearly missed by many.

She was predeceased by her husband, Robert Summey in 2001, and by seven siblings.

Rose is survived by her two children, Scott Summey and wife Dana, and Gail Summey and husband Paul Stone, her brother, Robert Lamontagne, and her sister, Madeleine Hilt.

A graveside service will take place in the spring at St. Joseph Cemetery in Biddeford.
