Sally A. Petit, 70, passed away on Monday, April 14 at Maine Medical Center in Portland after a long bout with heart disease.

Sally was born in Kittery, Maine on October 28, 1954, the daughter of Allen V. Smith, Sr. and Edna Wilbur Smith.

Sally graduated from Scarborough High School in 1973. She was involved in square dancing through her teens and joined the Roll A Way Teens square dance club in Saco, where she met her future husband, Robert Petit. She was also a part of the Pep Club and Future Teachers of America while in high school. Together, Sally and Rob started a club for pre-teens called the Miniature Promenaders. When the kids aged out of that, they started a teen group called Lucky Squares. As Sally and Rob got older, they became members of Mix & Mingle Squares in Scarborough.

Not only did Sally enjoy square dancing for many years, she also enjoyed going to the car races at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway, where she worked as a ticket teller in the pit booth. She was well known for going to the theater, and loved to help out with the DRAMA CLUBS at Biddeford Middle School and Biddeford Intermediate School.

Sally married Robert on February 12, 1977, and honeymooned in Florida seeing the Daytona 500 and visited Disney World, a vacation spot they would return to many, many times.

The couple have two sons and six grandsons; Robert III and Erika, and their boys Sullivan, Alexander, and Cooper, who all live in North Little Rock, Arkansas, and Jeffrey and Lisa and their three boys, Callaghan, Theodore, and Elliot, all live in Saco.

Sally worked at Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield in Portland for 34 years. Then she worked as a substitute teacher and ed tech for 16 years in the Biddeford School Department, a job she loved dearly.

Sally was a member of the Saco PTOs and was instrumental in lots of fund-raising projects to help build the early playgrounds at Burns and Young School. She helped create a few School Cookbooks! And she loved working at the concession stands for TA TRACK MEETS, TA FOOTBALL GAMES, and TA BASKETBALL GAMES.

Sally is survived by her husband of 48 years, Robert Jr, her two sons, and six grandsons.

She was predeceased by her parents and her younger brother, Allen Smith Jr.

Visiting Hours will be from 1PM-3PM with a Funeral Service at 3PM Monday, April 21, 2025 at Cote Funeral Home Chapel, 87 James Street, Saco.

Sally was always willing to help or donate to any cause.  With that in mind, in lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to the non-profit of your choice in Sally's name.
