Sharon J. Thompson, of Old Orchard Beach, passed away peacefully at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough on Thursday, March 6, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Augusta, Maine on January 14, 1949, daughter of Florian and Phyllis (Douglass) Betit. She was educated in the Augusta school system and as a young woman went to work waitressing at area restaurants. She then worked at Snows Canning in Scarborough for 15 years, and later transitioned to West Point Stevens where she devoted 17 years until her retirement.  It was during her time at Snows Canning, in 1974, when she met the love of her life Robert Thompson. They were inseparable as a couple, and on July 1, 1985 they married.  The young couple bought a home in Old Orchard Beach and remained there to present day.

Sharon was a caring mother and grandmother, and devoted countless hours supporting her daughter Sherry, and later her granddaughter Breana, with all of their school events.  She took great joy in their accomplishments.

Sharon had several hobbies and interests which included family get-togethers to play card games like "Rummy" and "Phase 10", and family cookouts.  She loved going to the Bingo halls, spending time at the Fryeburg Fair every fall, taking scenic car rides with Robert, and going out to eat ….with Olive Garden at the top of her restaurant list.  One of her most memorable trips was the one she took to New York City with her daughter Sherry.

For all the things Sharon valued and considered precious, there was nothing she cherished more than her family, especially her granddaughter Breana.  Her beloved dog Dexter also held a special place in her heart. She will be sadly missed by many.

Sharon was predeceased by her parents, Florian and Phyllis Betit; by her sister Ann Delisle; by her father-in-law Horace Thompson; by brother-in-law Paul Vance; by brother-in-law Dana Thompson, and by brother-in-law and sister-in-law Paul and Jeanne Thompson.

She is survived by her husband Robert Thompson of 39 years; by her daughter Sherry Surber of Arundel; by her granddaughter Breana Surber of Arundel; by brother Doug Betit of Biddeford; by sister Dee Gallo and husband Michael of Houston Texas; by sister Susan Taylor and husband Jerry; by mother-in-law Bernice Thompson; by sister-in-law Cathy Thompson; by brother-in-law and sister-in-law Darren and Karen Burgess; by brother-in-law and sister-in-law Horace and Lynn Thompson; by brother-in-law and sister-in-law Dale and Karen Thompson; by brother-in-law Ricky Thompson; by sister-in-law Luella Thompson; as well as by several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 11:00AM to 1:00PM, with a Funeral Service at 1:00PM on Monday, March 17, 2025, at Cote Funeral Home Chapel, Saco.
