Solange A Oldmixon (nee Levesque) – 02/06/1935 – 10/16/2021
Solange Oldmixon, born February 6, 1935, was the daughter of Dr. George and Blanche Levesque. She grew up in Biddeford and was a graduate of St. Louis High School. She spent many years working on the Cyres family farm and lived close by to her brother, Marcel Levesque and her sister, Jeane Cote who both predeceased her. Solange moved to Portland, Me in 1970 after receiving her Secretarial Degree from Plus Grey's School of Business. Solange met her husband, Robert G. Oldmixon in Portland, who predeceased her on June 14, 2012.
Soon after marrying, the Oldmixons built a property in North Windham, Me on Presumpscott Cove, where they personally finished the interior of the house. Their home welcomed many family gatherings and reflected their love of "do-it-yourself", the beauty of the cove and surrounding nature. Tiring of winter, and following Solange's retirement of 20 years working as a Quality Assurance Inspector for Fairchild Semiconductor in South Portland, Me., the couple retired to their home in Englewood, Florida, where they resided for 30 years. Once again, they enjoyed their life on the canal thriving with flora and fauna and welcomed vacationing family and friends in to their home.
Following her husband's death, Solange moved to her daughter's home in Saco, Me in January of 2015. Sadly, Solange passed away on October 16, 2021 at The Landing at Saco Bay, where she resided for the last few years and succumbed to her diagnosis of Alzheimer's.
Solange was an avid gardener and her several homes displayed beautiful blooms throughout the years. She was an avid craftswoman, taking to macrame, counted cross-stitch, needlepoint, knitting, crochet and basket weaving. She treasured her family with many of her skilled achievements, providing them with lasting memories of her. Solange was an accomplished Yard Sale aficionado and spent many weekends selling her crafted items as well as framed art work and furniture built by her husband Bob. She was known to "split a penny in two".
The Oldmixons also enjoyed traveling. They enjoyed 3 weeks in China, cruising on the Red Sea. They traveled to Ireland and Scotland, Bulgaria, Yugoslavia and Canada, and also spent many long weekends visiting friends along the Eastern Seaboard. Solange also traveled to Hawaii. The photo of Solange was chosen as her favorite one of herself, taken while on a cruise. Her expression captures her happiness.
Surviving Solange are her daughter Susan Varney of Fort Meyers, Fl., her daughter Denise Dunn of Saco, Me., and her son Guy Derosier and his partner Julie Bousier of Cornish, Me. She also leaves behind her two grandchildren and their spouses, Dawn and Andy Donovan of Biddeford, Me., and Keith and Ashley Turcotte of Saco, Me. She is survived by her sister in law, Claudette Levesque of Biddeford, Me., and her two cousins Suzanne Levesque of Quebec Province, CA and Andre Levesque of Biddeford Pool, Me. She also leaves numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews and step-family members.
In remembrance of Solange's love of animals, especially her horses, please consider a donation in her name to the Animal Welfare Society, The Kennebunk Animal Shelter, or your local horse or animal rescue league/society.
She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by family and friends. Services are to be arranged for family and friends in Spring of 2022.
