May 30, 1952 — Mar 1, 2024
Stanley R. Charles
Buxton
Stanley Richard Charles, 71, of Buxton died Friday, March 1, 2024, at Maine Medical Center in Portland.
He was born in Biddeford on May 30, 1952, a son of Philip and Elizabeth (Garland) Charles. Stanley grew up in Saco and graduated from Thornton Academy, class of 1970. He went on to receive a Bachelors Degree in Business in 1974 from the University of Southern Maine.
Stanley met the love of his life, Peggy Vance, in 1968, and after a five year courtship they married in 1973. The young couple began their lives in Saco, and then moved to Buxton where they raised their three children, Christopher, Ryan and Lindsay.
He had a long and successful career in banking, and retired in 2017 from Northeast Bank after serving them for 18 years.
When Stanley wasn't working, you could always find him on the golf course. He was a lifelong member at the Biddeford Saco Country Club, and he even served for several years on their Board of Directors. His other interests included fishing, and playing cards with some of his friends at the country club. He also looked forward to his yearly trip to Moosehead with a few of his fishing buddies.
Of all the things Stanley valued and considered precious, there was nothing he cherished more than his family, especially his grandchildren. He will be sadly missed.
Stanley is survived by his wife of 50 years, Peggy Charles; by his three children, Christopher Charles and wife Tara of Buxton, Ryan Charles and wife Melissa of Steep Falls, and Lindsay Charles and partner Michael Cooper of Connecticut; by his three grandchildren, Bentley, Christopher and Charlotte; by two step-grandchildren, Alexis Charles and Aiden Pierson; and by his brother, David Charles.
Consistent with Stanley's wishes, services will be private at Laurel Hill Cemetery.
