Obituary

Susan "Sue" C. Brown, 59, of Portland, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, at Mercy Hospital in Portland. Born in Baltimore City, Maryland, on April 2, 1964, Sue was a beloved daughter of John and Carol Turner. She grew up in Newport, Maine, and graduated from Nokomis High School, class of 1982.

Following her high school years, Sue pursued her academic endeavors at Endicott College, where she earned a degree in Business and Travel. After her time in college, Sue embarked on a fulfilling career in retail, working with Bradlees Department Stores in Massachusetts. Her love of fashion led her to work with prestigious brands such as Ann Taylor, Ralph Lauren, and Caché. Sue was admired for her sense of style and her ability to make others feel beautiful and valued.

In 2006, Sue relocated to Portland, where she found unconditional love and companionship with Wallace "Wally" Brown. Their relationship was marked by many shared passions, including practicing yoga, studying French with one another, and movie theater dates with their children. They cherished their moments together, particularly the long walks they took with their dogs in Falmouth Community Park, the place where they first met and were later married.

Sue enjoyed spending time with friends dancing at local venues, and experiencing a diverse range of music, from Eric Clapton to Miranda Lambert and Brazilian Girls. She found joy in simple pleasures like an early morning sunrise, joined by a strong cup of coffee and the company of her dogs, Jinx and Mei. She found solace in nature, spending hours tending to her garden. She would often sit outside on the deck, counting the hummingbirds and honeybees that visited the backyard.

Sue was known for her vibrant personality, along with her sharp wit and sense of humor. She had a magnetic smile, a bright, contagious laugh, a humble, strong spirit, and an open, warm heart. Her greatest love was reserved for her family, friends, and dogs, whom she adored unconditionally. She was a caring and loving mother whose highest honor was raising her children. She will be deeply, deeply missed by all who knew her.

Sue was predeceased by her parents John and Carol Turner of Newport, her husband Wallace Brown, and daughter Maggie Brown. She is survived by her children, Chelsea Villetta and fiancé Davis Jacques, sons Nicholas, Chandler, and Griffin Villetta, and daughter Anna Brown, all of Portland. She is also survived by her grandson Tate, and aunt Eleanor Ellie Norton of Eastport.

Visiting hours will be held from 5-7pm on Thursday, March 28th, 2024, at Cote Funeral Home Chapel, 87 James Street, Saco, Maine, 04072. In lieu of flowers, donations in Sue's memory may be made to: The Maine Audubon Society, 20 Gilsland Farm Road, Falmouth, Maine 04105.
