Thomas W. Babbitt

Thomas (Tom) W. Babbitt, 78, of Saco, slipped into the arms of Jesus Friday, February 7, from Southern Maine Hospice, after a brief battle with cancer. His loving family was there to support him.

He was born June 3, 1946, and raised in Boonton, N.J. He served in the Navy from 1964 to 1966. He worked installing all types of beautiful flooring for over 50 years. He lived in Southern California and Arizona for a number of years. Tom moved to Maine in 1983 to be near his children who moved there in 1975. He lived in various places around Maine, including Rumford, South Paris, Greene and Saco.

He enjoyed fishing, singing, songwriting and playing his guitar. He often sang and played for people, including residents at nursing homes and various gatherings. He was a man who dearly loved God and tried to tell everyone he could about him. He was a soldier of The Salvation Army and attended church faithfully.

He is survived by his former wife, Linda Babbitt, who took him in near the end of his life; four children, Thomas S. Babbitt and his wife Bessie of Liverpool, NY, Desiree Stelcer and her husband Adi of Standish, ME, Linette Sousa and her husband Jim of Brockton, MA and Christopher Holland of Erie, PA; his sister, Edith Babbitt McKenzie of Albany, NH; nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his brothers, Robert, Paul and David Babbitt; and his sisters, June Crane and Betty O'Conner.

A memorial service will be held at The Salvation Army, 2 Sixth Street, Old Orchard Beach, Maine at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 15th.
