Vaughan J. Crandall Jr., 86, of Saco, Maine passed away in his home Wednesday evening on November 2, 2022.
He was born in Malden, Massachusetts on August 6, 1936, son of Vaughan Sr. and Leah (Blakeney) Crandall. He graduated from Pennell Institute in Gray, Maine, class of 1955.
Vaughan enlisted in the United States Air Force serving his country for four years and then spent three years in the Marine Reserves.
He married his high school sweetheart, Winnifred (Winnie) Neal on June 3, 1961.
After returning from the service Vaughan went to work for the Fels Company in Portland for 2 years. He then became a temporary Game Warden until a position became available in the Maine Marine Patrol.
Vaughan worked for the Maine Marine Patrol as a field officer, advanced to an investigator and them to Captain of the Maine Marine Patrol in Augusta. Vaughan retired from the Marine Patrol in 1988.
During retirement, Vaughan found a way to continue to work and spend time outdoors. He worked for the Fishery in Brunswick and later on the Kennebunk River tracking Sturgeon, he was known as "The Sturgeon Surgeon".
Vaughan had many interesting hobbies. Fishing and hunting were at the top of the list. One of his favorite quotes while riding in his Dodge Ram truck, was "If you can't Dodge it, Ram it". He also had a great enjoyment of animals, especially for his dog Buddy and cat Tabby.
Most of all, he loved to spend time with his family and friends. Some of the special times were spent socializing with family and neighborhood friends. These close bonds and memories made will be cherished forever. He will be sadly missed.
He was predeceased by one sister, Erminie White.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Winnifred Crandall, three children Mike Crandall and wife Lynda, Jill Jones, Amanda Stobert and husband Jason. He is also survived by five grandchildren Mackenzie Holland and husband Mark, Brandon Kerry, Samantha Jones, Sheila Crandall and Bella Stobert and two great grandchildren Vaughan and Everlea, along with nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 12PM-1PM with a Funeral Service at 1PM Thursday, November 10, 2022, at Cote Funeral Home Chapel, 87 James Street, Saco. Burial with Military Honors will be at a later date.
