Walter R. Bonneau, 86, of Old Orchard Beach, passed away on Tuesday, September 21, 2021, in Scarborough.

He was born in Jay, Maine on February 7, 1935, a son of Arthur and Mabel (Bisson) Bonneau. Walter graduated high school from St. Dominic Academy, class of 1953. He enjoyed playing hockey and tennis in school and lettered in both sports.

Walter enlisted in the United States Army, serving during the Korean Conflict in Guam as a heavy equipment operator. After the service he went on to Providence College and received a Bachelor's Degree in Business.

Walter was a resident of Old Orchard Beach for over 60 years . Walter was employed by Graybar Electric Supply Company in Portland. He was a salesman for the wholesale supply company for 36 years, retiring in 1994.

Walter had many interesting hobbies. His favorite was tennis, a sport he played throughout his life. He volunteered and coached for the Old Orchard Beach High School Tennis Team and Recreation Department for many years and was a member of the U. S. Tennis Association. He cherished the relationships he made on and off the court with the players and teammates throughout the years.  Walter also spent hours in his vegetable garden and tapping maple trees. He shared his goodies with his family and friends. This tradition has been carried on by one of his children.

Most of all, Walter loved his family. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather.

He was predeceased by his wife of 37 years Henriette Bonneau, two siblings Bertrand Bonneau and Jeannette Lajoie and by one grandson Justin.

He is survived by five children Richard Bonneau and his wife Lisa, Lillianne Kent and her husband Mark, David Bonneau and his wife Nancy, Catherine Stankiewicz and her husband Steven and Debra Bonneau. He is also survived by sixteen grandchildren Alexandra, Aaron, Katelyn, Brittany, Derek, Daniel, Courtney, Rachel, Steven Jr., Brian, Tabitha, Christian, Hannah, Eric, Devlin and Avree and five great grandchildren Sophia, Ella, Luna, Trevor and Brantley and by one sister Leona Arsenault and her husband Michael, nieces and nephews, and his long-time companion Odette Pennell.
