Obituary

Wayne Gionest

Arundel

Wayne K. Gionest, 69, of Arundel, passed away peacefully at home on Friday morning, April 10, 2026, surrounded by family and loved ones.

He was born in Saco on September 4, 1956, a son of Raymond Sr. and Irene (Spulick) Gionest. He grew up in Biddeford and was raised alongside his seven siblings.

He graduated from Biddeford High School, class of 1974. After high school, he started working for Saco Tannery. He later became employed at Pratt and Whitney where he remained for 42 years before retiring in 2023.

Wayne married the love of his life, Lorraine (Desmarais) Gionest, in 1976 after being childhood friends. They shared 53 years together in Saco and Biddeford and raised their two daughters. They moved to the quiet town of Arundel in 2000 where the couple remained.

Wayne was a member of the Biddeford-Saco Elks Lodge and Biddeford Eagles Club where he enjoyed spending time. He liked playing tennis and basketball and watching all sports.

Wayne and Lorraine traveled to many destinations in the United States, including Hawaii, Florida, Nashville, New Orleans, Washington DC, and Alaska. They enjoyed seeing the country but felt more comfortable at home where they would build bonfires and relax by their pool with friends and family. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

Wayne was predeceased by his mother: Irene (Spulick) Gionest, his father: Raymond Gionest Sr., and his brother: Raymond Gionest Jr.

Wayne is survived by his wife: Lorraine (Desmarais) Gionest, his two daughters: Jamie Davis and husband Andrew, and Jessica Desjardins and husband John, his brothers: Brian Gionest and wife Anne, Ernest Gionest and wife Brenda, Thomas Gionest, and Mark Gionest, his sisters: Roxane Hayes and husband Donald, and Lisa Andrews and husband Larry, his grandchildren: Zachary McLaughlin, Lydia Desjardins, and Lauren Roy and husband Hunter, and his great-grandchild: Wyatt Roy.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, from 4:00pm to 7:00pm at Cote Funeral Home, Saco.
