Wendie B. Colpitts
Biddeford
It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Wendie Byron Colpitts who departed this world on October 23rd, 2023, surrounded by her family and friends.
Wendie was born to Joseph Cyril Byron and Ruth Hammond Byron on January 4th, 1943, in Worcester MA.
After graduating from Wachusett Regional High School in Holden MA, Wendie went on to study early childhood education at Vermont Junior College in Montpelier. She loved children and utilized her degree to teach preschool in Worcester. She was universally adored by her class, and throughout her life, children were drawn to her.
She spent her childhood summers at Biddeford Pool Maine with her parents and sister Diane. It was there that she met the love of her life, Garnet Colpitts. Garnet purchased the home next to Wendie's parents, so Garnet always said he married "The Girl Next Door". Garnet and Wendie married in 1968 and settled in Biddeford Pool to raise their son Christopher John.
In 1972, they moved to Ocean View Drive in Biddeford, where they lived many happy years, always with a spoiled black lab in residence. Wendie loved to entertain her friends and family, especially during the holidays. She enjoyed attending the Symphony and theater with Garnet. She loved the beach, shopping, spending time with her friends, and playing cribbage. She was very active and loved to cross-country ski at their home in Jackson NH. Wendie and Garnet spent many a happy weekend in their cozy home in the mountains, which she delighted in decorating.
As we mourn her loss, and try to mend our broken hearts, we will take solace in the thought that she is at last reunited with her son Chris, her parents, and her beloved dog Cadence.
Wendie is survived by her Husband, Garnet Colpitts of Biddeford, her sister, Diane Szopinski of Biddeford Pool, and multiple nieces and nephews.
In keeping with Wendie's wishes, a private graveside ceremony will be held for family members only. She will lay to rest in Laurel Hill Cemetery. She has asked for no flowers to be sent. We appreciate your understanding during this intimate gathering. Wendie has requested a celebration of her life be held at a later date for all who wish to attend at the Lincoln Hotel in Biddeford. The family will post details of this event once they are finalized.
