Wilfred M. Croteau, 88, of Alfred and formerly of Old Orchard Beach, passed away with his family by his side on Thursday January 4, 2024 at home.

He was born on January 27, 1935, a son of Joseph and Claudia (Martineau) Croteau. He was educated from Saco schools.

Being from the generation of hard work, Wilfred had many job in various industries. He was employed by several local factories, Cushman Bakery and was a salesmen for Saco Motors. He retired from the Maine Turnpike in 2000.

Not one to sit still, Wilfred worked as a parking attendant for many summers in Old Orchard Beach during his retirement.

Wilfred was always willing to help family and friends, anyone in need. One example was for his son Dan, who passed away, with his towing business. Dan's passing affected him deeply but the family held together and supported each other. Wilfred was extremely proud of his wife and all his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren with their accomplishments.

Wilfred enjoyed life, family gatherings, and any excuse to be with his family and friends. Traveling was another pastime of his, trips to Canada with his wife Huguette and many destinations throughout the United States including Virginia, Florida, Las Vegas and Texas to name a few.  He loved to sing and dance. He even made a record as he sang Hey Hey Good Looking and Five Foot Two eyes of Blue. He also joked he could have been the next Elvis. He even sang at one of the Biddeford Festivals which was held at St. Jean's Hall as he sang God Bless America and My Country, Tis of Thee.

When time permitted, Wilfred and his wife enjoyed Scarborough Downs and Foxwood Casinos. He was lucky enough to win a car and a huge prize on one lottery ticket. Sometimes he won and sometimes he lost, but always with a smile.

His home was full of fun and laughter always telling stories, eating ice cream, pizza, french fries and clam cakes with family and friends. The girls remember all the advice dad gave them even if it was the same advice over and over. These special conversations mean more today than ever. The family cherishes these memories and will hold on to them forever. He will be sadly missed by many.

He was predeceased by one son Daniel Croteau, brothers Pete, Raymond, Ralph, Normand, Robert and Gerard Croteau and sisters Yvette Labonte, Fern Page, Lillian Cyr, Evelyn Menard, Laurette Ouellette, Rachel Laflamme, Simmone Doyon and baby Theresa Croteau.

He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Huguette (Pivin) Croteau and three daughters Theresa Maker and husband David, Linda Houy and husband John, Sandra McDade and daughter in law Roxanne Croteau. He is also survived by six grandchildren Celina, Danielle, Joseph, Michelle, Richard and Ashley, nine great grandchildren Curtis, Lexi, Grace, Andrew, Ty, Macey, Reese, Arabella and Emilia, one sister Jacqueline Robinson and many nieces and nephews.
