William A. Conlan

Old Orchard Beach

William Alfred Conlan, known to friends and family as Bill, of Old Orchard Beach, ME passed away on November 23, 2024, at the age of 82. Born on May 7, 1942, in Boston, MA, he was the son of the late Alfred J. Conlan and Catherine (MacArthur) Conlan. He was preceded in death by his brother, Richard F. Conlan.

Bill is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Martha Conlan, and their two sons, Brian Conlan and his wife Krystin of Chester, NJ, and Christopher Conlan and his husband James of Scarborough, ME. He leaves behind three grandsons, Cole, Drew, and Gavin, as well as his sister-in-law Noreen Conlan of Ocean Park, ME, nephews Rick and Rob Conlan, niece Deborah Severance, and many extended loving friends and family.

Bill graduated from Cambridge High and Latin and later served in the United States Army Reserves. Bill was also a member of Cambridge DeMolay as a young adult, earning the highest honor, Degree of Chevalier.  Subsequently, he was an active member and Past Master of the Joseph Webb Masonic Lodge in Boston, MA where he also served as Treasurer for many years. His professional life, spanning several decades, was dedicated to a career in banking, during which he worked at several banks across Massachusetts.

Bill was deeply connected to Ocean Park, ME where he spent his summers growing up. In his teen years, he served as a lifeguard and counselor at the Royal Ambassador Camp.  The community of Ocean Park has always held a special place in his heart, as it was here that he met his wife Martha in the summer of 1962. The couple married in 1964 and celebrated 60 years of marriage this past October. Raising his family in Reading, MA, where he and Martha lived for 43 years, Bill was a devoted father. He dedicated his time as a Little League coach and was always actively involved and present for all his son's sporting events and activities.

Bill continued the tradition of spending summers with his family at his parents' cottage in Ocean Park.   From early childhood onward, he loved summer days on the beach and cherished this special community and the extended family of friends which continued to grow over the years.  In retirement, he and Martha moved permanently to Old Orchard Beach, ME and he was an active organizer and leader of the Ocean Park Bowling Group.

In the past weeks, Bill received exceptional care by the compassionate staff at St. André Health Care in Biddeford, ME.

Visiting hours will be held from 2-5PM Sunday, December 1, 2024, at Cote Funeral Home Chapel, Saco. A Funeral Service will be at 11AM Monday, December 2, 2024 at the First Parish Congregational Church, Saco. Burial will follow in Laurel Hill Cemetery, Saco.
